Winery Description:

Long time friends Michael Stone and Peter Newton shared many passions: wine, business, and their love for the Greek Islands and Northern California. Both natives of Britain, they were drawn to the sunshine, natural beauty, and welcoming spirit of these places. In 1964, inspired to combine those influences, they founded Sterling Vineyards, a winery dedicated to crafting high quality, approachable wines in a space where locals and travelers alike could feel at home. One of just 27 bonded wineries in Napa Valley at the time, Sterling helped shape the region’s rise to fame with Bordeaux inspired wines. By 1969, they had already set milestones, including the first vintage dated Napa Valley Merlot, alongside early vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. Their vision extended to the winery itself, modeled after the whitewashed houses of Mykonos. Sterling was the first in Napa to put the guest experience at the heart of its design, with its iconic aerial gondola.
